Candied Jalapeño Pulled Pork

Candied Jalapeño Pulled Pork

Candied Jalapeño Pulled Pork

Sweet. Smoky. Saucy. A little spicy. And absolutely loaded.

Slow-cooked pulled pork piled high on a toasted bun, tossed with BBQ sauce and finished with Sweet n' Spicy Candied Jalapeños. We also add a splash of the syrup from the jar to the pork because throwing that stuff away should probably be illegal.

Serves: 6–8
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 8 hours slow cooker / 3–4 hours oven

Ingredients

For the pulled pork:

  • 3–4 lb boneless pork shoulder
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce of your choice, plus more for serving
  • ½ cup chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 4 tbsp syrup from the Sweet n' Spicy Candied Jalapeños
  • ½ cup Sweet n' Spicy Candied Jalapeños, roughly chopped

For serving:

  • Brioche or potato buns
  • Coleslaw
  • Extra BBQ sauce
  • Plenty of Sweet n' Spicy Candied Jalapeños

Directions

1. Season the pork.
Mix the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and cumin. Rub generously over the pork shoulder.

2. Get it cooking.
Place the pork in your slow cooker. Add the BBQ sauce, chicken stock, apple cider vinegar and candied jalapeño syrup.

Cook on LOW for 8–9 hours or HIGH for 5–6 hours, until the pork is fall-apart tender.

3. Pull it apart.
Remove the pork and shred it using two forks. Discard any large pieces of fat, then return the shredded pork to the cooking juices.

4. Add the good stuff.
Stir in the chopped Candied Jalapeños and a little extra BBQ sauce. Let everything cook together for another 10–15 minutes.

This gets the sweet jalapeño flavour right into the pork rather than just using them as a topping.

5. Build the sandwich.
Pile the pulled pork onto a toasted bun. Add coleslaw if you like, then top with whole or roughly chopped Candied Jalapeños and an extra drizzle of BBQ sauce.

The Candied Jalapeño Company Tip

Don't be shy with the jalapeños on this one. Chopped in the pork + whole slices on top gives you sweet heat throughout the sandwich and that perfect candied jalapeño bite on top.

And whatever you do, don't forget the syrup (or our Drizzle) . A couple tablespoons mixed into your BBQ sauce takes it to another level.

Good on Everything. Especially pulled pork.
